The Future of DFN

Hello everyone!

Thank you for taking a look at our game Drifter Fight Night, or DFN for short! It has been a while since our last update in 2021, and we would like to bring you up to speed on what we have been up to!

To make a long story short, we decided to completely rework the game. While we were proud of the initial game we made, DFN was originally a quick small side project and once it was completed we wanted to go back and take a pass of all the initial design decisions we made to see if we could make it better.

Turns out, the answer is yes and there is a lot that can be improved. Visuals of all characters have been redrawn entirely; below is a sneak peek of what some of these characters currently look like:

When we started DFN, we had only played a few fighting games. However, over the course of development we experienced a lot more of the genre, giving us a much deeper understanding of the design space. With this in mind, we've taken a second pass at the system mechanics, character movesets and the roster as a whole, with the goal of improving the gameplay experience while preserving some of the original atmosphere.

You also may have noticed that our multiplayer feature is not currently functional. This is because we are currently in the process of implementing rollback netcode, which is a large undertaking for our small team. We are sorry for those who are interested in playing! We will post updates as we have them and hope you will enjoy the new and improved DFN once all this refactor work is in a playable state.
